A Note from the Executive Officer

Lori Glasgow

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Executive Office website. Established in 1852, the Board of Supervisors is the governing body for the County of Los Angeles, and as the largest local government in the nation, it serves approximately 10 million residents. It is my privilege to serve as the Executive Officer for the Board of Supervisors.

The Board of Supervisors is responsible for establishing policy to guide the administrative functions of County departments and serves as the governing body of many districts, including Flood Control and Fire Protection Districts, and has created oversight/advisory boards to monitor the provision of select vital government programs and services. The Board oversees over 170 County commissions, committees, task forces, and special district agency boards and joint powers authorities, created by either State or Federal law, County ordinance, County Charter, or by action of the Board.

To support the Board of Supervisors’ duties in providing services that enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Los Angeles County, the Executive Office is responsible for a variety of administrative functions: publishing the Board’s weekly agenda and Statement of Proceedings, maintain official records (which date back to the 1850’s), and provide administrative, accounting, procurement, personnel, payroll, facility management and technological services to various County commissions, committees and task forces such as the Office of the Inspector General, the Civilian Oversight Commission, the Office of Child Protection, the Conflict of Interest/Lobbyist Registration and the Assessment Appeals Board.

As we launch and implement our new strategic plan, we look to the future with excitement and enthusiasm. As the needs of our community grow, our quest for commitment, excellence and ownership must be guiding principles in everything we do. Our professional staff is part of a diverse group of people that continually benefit from each other’s cultural and experiential differences to a shared success in ensuring that the Board of Supervisors receives our unequivocal support.

On behalf of the Executive Office, I invite you to learn more about the Board of Supervisors by reviewing our new website, which is designed to help you easily access the information you need to benefit you, your family and the communities we serve.
